The Day the Heiman Silo Came Down
September 15, 2007. -- 9:20 AM

This majestic 73 foot landmark stood on the farm of Carol Lee and Karen Heiman located three miles west and a half north of Baileyville. This silo had been a landmark for many years in the community until the morning of September 15, 2007. It was decided this day, that it would be its last day. Richard and Roger Buessing would take care of the chore of dropping this giant in a crowded lot among feed bunks and buildings and not damaging one of them. The silo was built in July, 1975 at a cost of $25,000 for the purpose of feeding a herd of 85 dairy cattle and as many young stock These lots and feed bunks were build when concrete was about $16.00 a yard. This photo was taken looking to the east.
