, With mouse over picture you see the Old Stone Church Resorted. Since 1870 The Old Stone Church has stood on the corner and Sixth and has stood through storm and hard times. It was there when in 1896 the worst tornado in this area's history took the steeple off this church, It congregation have all left or departed this world and it stood alone waiting it's fate for a time, as there were those who wanted the location to build their business, then in 1930 it had a new life and it became The Seneca Free Library. For seventy years The Old Stone was a place of books, of learning and enjoyment. It has stood on the corner of Sixth and Main and has stood the test of time, Was like an old person who did his best and there were those who said, Let us be kind, let us lay it to rest, everything has it's time and place and the time has come to put it away, It has no use and it must go. The cost will be to great to restore as the floor is buckled and the stringers are rotting, the steeple is a wreck, the windows leak and the pluming is gone so let it depart and have it's rest. However -- there were those who felt a bit sad to see it go. With some loving care it could be restored for it must have been built well to have stood this long. There must have been those who built it that would have said, "We did well, will not someone give it a bit of care and love for all the people who have gone before?" The people who called this their church are here no more, all departed or left the area long ago. When this church was built it must have been the pride of the town. This Old Rock Church is our history and dates back as far as any thing we have. They called it the Universalist Church and the people have come and gone. They built the Old Stone Church well as did they build their old rock homes and old rock barns which are all but gone however the Old Stone Church did get a new life. It has survived because of a few who saw it as more than rocks, mortar and rotten lumber. It has a life of it's own and some may still say it was a waste of money but once it is gone no amount of money will restore The Old Rock Church. Thank God there are some who cared. For those who do not know a new Library was build along side of the Old Stone Church with connecting link and the Old Stone Church is used as a meeting room and serves the community well.
