Gilford Hotel, Third and Main , Seneca, Kansas
The picture was scanned too large some time in {jpg) format and then
compressed which made the text partly disappear along with some
details on the picture. This is the reason you do not scan a
picture too large and then have to resize it. It was sold on e-bay
this way and sold for 50 cents. Original could have brought
$10.00 to 15.00 dollars.
By this time the City of Seneca now has
install lamp post along the side of the street. It would help to
know the date of some of the pictures if we knew the date the light were
installed.
Notice the fountain which was in
the center of the intersection. This fountain was presented
to the City of Seneca by The National Humane
Alliance, founded by Herman Lee Ensign. It's purpose was for the
watering of animals in town. The bronze plate on the side of the
fountain had the date of 1910 which means this picture is after
1910, how much later we do not know. The fountain was
removed from the center of the intersection and moved to the west
park where it can be seen in 2005 along tenth street.
