Below is part of the article from Seneca -Tribune May 1918 "Many things contributed to the excellent record of the Seneca Red Cross sale. The City and the community worked for miles about and around Seneca and worked in harmony. There never has been such an undertaking in the city or county which prevailed such oneness of purpose and endeavor. Everyone had his coat off and sleeves rolled up for the fray. Work, push and help could be sniffed in the air from near and afar. Farmers came with their products, stock of superior breeding were in the pens. The bleating of the lamb, the bawling of the short-horn calf. the cackling of the hen and the chanticleer of the blooded cockerel broke the stillness of the early morning on the day of the sale. Great piles of 1916 seed corn that sold for a good price gave the sidewalk along Main street a golden skirting, faintly predicting the wealth in the store from the day. Bushels of potatoes in sacks awaiting the call of the auctioneers foretold the richness and plenty brought from stall, cellar and bin. Pianos, organs, furniture, foods, new and old, canned fruits, fancy work from nimble fingers, dainty furnishings of every size and shape loaded the counters and shelves of the big stores room of the Firstenberger Building." "The orb of the day lake a ball of fire in the east dissipated the light and succeed the darkness of dawn made melodious by the feathered songsters of the early morn. Even heaven itself to be. Early Main Street was astir with life, and people where arriving from near and far. The influx continued until one of the biggest crowds ever in Seneca thronged the streets."
The Seneca Tribune reported with headlines as above and the following story of the Red Cross Sale.
