George Williams was an out standing citizens of Seneca's early days.

George W. Williams was born  in a small New Jersey village on March 18, 1848, died December 12, 1917, he was likely one of the richest men to live in Seneca, Kansas. He was with the earliest settlers in Seneca, being only a 11 year old boy when he first came to Seneca with his aunt  and her husband Capt. John E. Smith. This is the Smith family who had the hotel at fourth and main and also the first  toll bridge. Capt. John E. Smith  in the person who was given credit for sowing  oats on the trail to divert the trail traffic to Seneca.  This was the hotel where the pony express stopped in 1860 and 61. The Williams home is now the Popkess Mortuary today in 2004..

George Williams was  married in 1876 to Mary Bryan of Wathena. There were six children. Raymond was killed by a passenger train in 1906.  Mrs. Williams did not long survive after her husband, passing away April 1, the next year at Miami Beach, Florida. The surviving children are Mrs. Short, Mrs. Edith Collins, Miss Rachael Williams, and Milton B. Williams.
